The Technical Support Section of the Technical Services Branch is responsible for the operation of the air monitoring network in the state of Kentucky.

- The Technical Support Section repairs, modifies, and maintains instrumentation used in the air monitoring network, which includes the continuously operating monitors for carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, oxides of nitrogen, and ozone, as well as particulate samplers and acid rain collectors.
- The Technical Support Section provides training and technical advice to field staff who operate the air monitoring equipment in each of the regional offices across the state.
- The Technical Support Section sets up air monitoring sites across the state, usually a standard 8x10 trailer outfitted with various air analyzers and sample probes, and rooftop monitoring equipment, and meteorological stations.
- The Technical Support Staff provides technical support and training for various special scientific studies conducted throughout the state.
- The Technical Support Section maintains a statewide computerized data acquisition network that automatically retrieves the data from the air monitoring sites.
